It may seem like a logical conclusion to assume eating too many unhealthy carbohydrates is the primary cause of Type 2 diabetes. While taking in excess amounts of unhealthy carbohydrates may be to blame for high and unstable blood sugar if the individual is a diabetic, there are usually more factors to consider.
When examining the cause of Type 2 diabetes, it’s rarely one factor that leads to its development. Since diabetes is a blood sugar condition, it’s easy to blame one’s sugar and unhealthy carbohydrate intake. Eating too many unhealthy carbs over the years is not enough to make anyone a Type 2 diabetic although there’s no denying it is an unhealthy habit.
With an overconsumption of carbohydrates, it is a guarantee there will be ample fuel stored in the skeletal muscles. Which leads us to the question: is the individual physically active? If not, those excess carbs are not utilized, which means they are then converted to fat.
When you combine high blood sugar with physical inactivity, you have weight gain. And with weight gain, blood sugar rises even further. It doesn’t help insulin resistance increases, making it more taxing for the body to manage it’s blood sugar.
Some people will argue there’s much more to the causes of Type 2 diabetes. Many believe this form of diabetes is a hereditary disease. While there is plenty of research evidence to support this, it’s not a fair assessment to state the primary cause of Type 2 diabetes is family history. Type 2 diabetes is largely a preventable disease, and for this reason, it’s not possible an uncontrollable factor alone is a primary cause.
Furthermore, by narrowing your focus on what can be controlled, you will see it’s much more than just carb consumption. With that in mind, if you’re looking to prevent being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, you should not just aim to reduce or control your sugar intake…
Essentially, you should improve your lifestyle to the best of your ability, so your overall health and well-being can prosper in the long run.
Although managing your disease can be very challenging, Type 2 diabetes is not a condition you must just live with. You can make simple changes to your daily routine and lower both your weight and your blood sugar levels. Hang in there, the longer you do it, the easier it gets.
The answer isn’t in the endless volumes of available information but in yourself.
